Bearings are widely used in varied applications for smooth, low-friction movement between two or more surfaces. This movement using bearings can be either rotary or linear. When there is rotary movement, it implies shaft rotating within a mount while linear movement implies one surface moving along another. Bearings are basically anti-friction devices. Different bearings have different anti-friction characteristics. Almost all bearings are lubricated. There are different types of bearings available in the market which are classified on the basis of their movement, on their principle of operation or on their load capacity. We see the use of bearings in almost everywhere like in the form of hinges in drawers to larger sized bearings used in heavy industries.
